1. deadly adj. & adv
(1) adj. 极其危险的,致命的,死气沉沉的
Cancer is a deadly disease.
A deadly silence filled the class.
Her deadly appearance was due to long illness.
(2) adv. 非常,极其,死了似地
I am deadly sleepy.
2. imaginary adj. 想象出来的,虚构的
This is an imaginary story.
All of her troubles are imaginary.
imaginative 富于想象力的,爱想象的
an imaginative writer/ child/ story
imaginable 能想象的,想得到的(与形容词的最高级或all, every, no 等连用,加重语气)
every imaginable means = every means imaginable
imagine vt. 想象 后接n/ doing/ sb. Doing/ that clause
imagination n. 想象力;想象出来的东西,幻想
The ghost you saw is just your imagination.
You should use your imagination to draw the picture.
3. transmit 传送; 传染; 传播/传导/ 播送;播放
a. This infection is transmitted by mosquitoes.
b. If you transmit this kind of bad habits to your friends, you’ll be regretful some day.
c. Water can transmit light and sound.
d. We can transmit the TV news by TV.
e. Rats transmit diseases.

4. via 经过; 经由/ 凭借; 通过
a. We went to London via Paris.

5. break down
(1) (机器、车辆等)坏了
Twice his small electric fan broke down.
I am sorry we were late, because our car broke down.
(2) (身体)垮了, 感情控制不住(哭起来了)
I can’t have you breaking down in health.
She broke down with a sob.
(3) (计划、谈判)失败了,坚持不下去了
The peace talk has broken down.
(4) (谈话,通讯)中断了
He broke down in the middle of his speech.

7. available 可以找到/得到的,可以利用的, 可供使用的,(指人)可找到,可以用
Tickets for the All-star football match are available at the box office.
I am available in the afternoon.
Is the library available during the summer vacation?
There is only a little money available for the trip.
These dresses are not available in your size, I’am afraid.
8. virus c.n. 病毒 其前可加不定冠词 viruses
She can’t come tonight; she has got/ caught some kind of virus.

9. persuade vt.
1) 使相信,说服 (指结果) persuade sb. into doing sth. 或persuade sb to do sth,
Thank you for persuading my mother to let me join the army.
I have persuaded him into giving up playing computer games.
2) 劝说,但是不一定成功,advise to do 或 try to persuade
I tried to persuade him into get rid of the bad habit. But he wouldn’t listen.
3) 同义词: convince vt. 说服,劝服,使某人相信
